Multimedia Entertainment Company Offices

FXFOWLE renovated an early 1900s armory that had recently served as a sound stage into office space for 240 employees of a multimedia entertainment company. The project involved the meticulous restoration of the building's landmarked masonry shell using archival photos and the gut renovation of the interior of the three-story drill hall. New skylights were inserted and a light slot was created between the two volumes to provide natural light to the otherwise windowless hall. To gain much needed floor space, FXFOWLE inserted two mezzanine floors within the drill hall, accommodating glass-enclosed offices, conference rooms, and open-plan workspaces. In accordance with the setback requirements of the zoning code, a 30-foot-wide full-height open space was maintained along the length of the hall, which is used for large meetings and events.
